Statement: A sixth generation New Zealander, I was born in Hastings in
1949 and lived in Warkworth before immigrating with my family to the U.S. My
childhood in New Zealand has a major influence on my work and choice of subject
matter. I have lived in Oak Creek Canyon, a few miles north of Sedona, for
thirty years. My paintings have been exhibited at the Natural History Museum in
New York and have toured Japan and Sweden with Birds in Art exhibitions. I am a
member of the Society of Animal Artists. I was selected by the New Zealand
Government to design the first three stamps for the Game Bird Habitat Stamp
Program, based on the U.S. Federal Duck Stamp Program. In 1999, I was invited
to participate in the first Eco-art conference and exhibition in Taiwan, where
my work was exhibited at the National Museum of History in Taipei. In 2003, I
was selected as a judge for the prestigious Federal Duck Stamp Contest held by
the Department of Interior's Fish & Wildlife Service. I am author of a
North Light book, 'Painting the Things You Love in Watercolor' and was featured
on the PBS series 'The Artist's Workshop'. I teach two painting workshops a
year in the U.S. and Europe. My work is in the permanent collection of The
Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, Wausau, Wisconsin and The Arizona Sonora
Desert Museum, Tucson, Arizona.
