Growing up in North Ogden, Utah, Blair Buswell discovered that some people earned a living at what he like to do for fun. If he wasn't on the field playing sports, he could always be found playing with clay. Blair decided at an early age that he wanted to become a professional artist. Blair has always been fascinated with the human figure. He likes the challenge of capturing the gesture, mood and expression of a person in thought, as well as the intensity of a skilled athlete in action. The unique combination of artist and athlete has opened many doors for Blair's career. His knowledge of sports came from hands-on experience as a college athlete. Blair began his post-high school education at Rick's College in Rexburg, Idaho, where he was recognized as the "Top Art Student". He then studied illustration and design at Utah State University, going on to earn a Bachelor's Degree from Brigham Young University in Art Education. While at BYU, Blair was named the Outstanding Sculpture Student. Blair has received numerous awards and honors for his work. One such honor was being named the 1990 Sport Artist of the Year by the United States Sports Academy; the first and only sculptor ever to be so honored. Blair enjoys sculpting a wide variety of subject matter, in a range of sizes. His pieces are displayed in museums, private collections, public parks, on college campuses, at sports complexes and in fine art galleries nationwide. "I try to give each piece its own personality." Admiring viewers have commented that his sculptures look as though they might at any moment, relax their pose, step off of the pedestal and walk away or begin speaking.
