The reliance on sound principles versus technique has been critical in the development of Chauncey's technique. A founding member of the Tucson Plein Air Painters Society, Chauncey enjoys a variety of subject matter, from landscape and figurative to floral and wildlife. Although he is still in the process of evolving, he describes his style as "mysterious realism". Chauncey explains that he "just wants to depict subtle beauty and simple everyday moments".
