David Malan is a traditional realist artist born and raised in Utah. His influences have long included many classical artists of the 19th century and Golden Age illustrators. Regular drawing in a sketchbook began early as a basis for all further creative growth and continues to be an fundamental part of his training. David employs a frank accurate approach to portray the emotions of the subject, and uses straight forward portraiture with highly finished oil painting. The artwork is focused on depicting the individual and creating an untold story. David graduated from the Illustration program at Brigham Young University in 2004, and pursues professional work in a variety of art related fields. David lives in South Jordan, Utah, with his wife, Natalie Malan who also is an artist.
