A
wildlife, portrait, and still-life painter in realist, Old Master style,
Krystii Melaine reflects her fascination with her subjects' appearance,
behavior, light color and form.
Melaine
grew up in an area by Bairnsdale, Victoria, which had much forested land, and
she did much observing of wild birds and animals. By the age of four, she
determined to be an artist and at age 14, she was already selling her paintings
and getting commissions.
She
studied painting, drawing, graphic design, and photography and then established
in Adelaide, Australia, her own fashion wear company, with products marketed
throughout Australia and New Zealand.
A
strong desire to return to art led her to work with Australian Graham Moore,
who was in his 80s when he instructed her in portraiture, still life and
landscape painting.
Although
Krystii Melaine is originally from Australia, she is now a permanent resident in the state of Washington. She travels regularly
around the American West and exhibits widely there including the Buffalo Bill Art Show
in Cody, Wyoming; Nature Works in Tulsa, Oklahoma; Arts for
the Parks in
Wyoming, and Birds in Art at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wisconsin.
