After
studying painting and illustration at the Kansas City Art Institute, where he
graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Williams went on to be in-house
Artist/Designer for Hallmark Cards and DaySpring Cards for the next ten years.
Today,
Todd excels in his ability to paint all subject matter using spontaneous
brushwork and creative virtuosity. Although he is not an abstractionist, he
still uses an abstractionist metaphor which is 'to take from.' In his case he
has chosen to take his forms from nature and his expression from his heart. He
has a unique ability to go beyond surface effects of atmosphere and light--to
turn inward, to capture the soul and sentiment of the subject. Most of the time
he can be found painting en plein air. Through this discipline he has found his
own recognizable voice, which is now becoming his signature style.
“Todd brings you into the soul of the subject,” says
Jinger Richardson,
owner of the Legacy Gallery in Jackson Hole, WY and
Scottsdale, AZ.
"His work is very interactive and I always feel
like I’m part of the scenes.”
Williams'
work has been exhibited across the US in gallery, museum, and invitational
exhibitions, such as the Gilcrease Museum, Montgomery Museum Of Fine Arts, The
Maynard Dixon Museum, Cincinnati’s Great American Artists Exhibition, and the
Oil Painters of America National and Regional Exhibitions where he has gained a
Signature Membership status.
The International
Artist Magazine featured his work from “Vienna and Prague” in their Dec./Jan.
2008 issue. In Sept. 2005, Todd was also featured in the Fine Art Connoisseur
formerly the Plein Air Magazine. In 2004 he received national and international
exposure for his art through a feature article in Southwest Art and International
Artist Magazine selected him for "Master Painters of the World" in
the United States Showcase.
