Aaron Schuerr, a signature member of the Pastel Society of America, is a dedicated plein-air painter based in Livingston, Montana. Working in both oil and pastel, he brings a quiet intimacy and sensitive rendering of light to the varied landscapes of the Rocky Mountain West.
Aaron started his art studies at the Art Institute of Chicago and moved on to an art college in Scotland. There he was introduced to mountains, the Highlands. One day he was drawing at the beach, looking toward the town taking in the sweep of the headlands. The rough charcoal drawing felt fresh and honest like nothing he had ever done. On that day Aaron packed up all his post-modern cleverness and became a landscape painter.
For his final year of college, Aaron took the bus and train to the countryside and did charcoal and pastel drawings. His studio suddenly got a whole lot bigger! At his graduation in Scotland in 1995, Aaron had the good fortune of nearly selling out his degree show, giving him enough cash to make it home to Montana. In 1996 he married Lynelle and lived in a small apartment in Livingston.
